Media Shed published the September issue of EL Gazette, the most anticipated of the year, in early autumn. It was packed with essential insights and exclusive data for the English Language Teaching (ELT) world.

We were thrilled to unveil our special focus on School Rankings, featuring our authoritative list of the top UK language centres for 2025–26. We showcased the top schools in the digital magazine, and schools that made the top 100 earned the distinction of being an EL Gazette Centre of Excellence. For the complete ranked list, head over to the EL Gazette website.
But that wasn’t all that was new. We also introduced two exciting regular sections:
- ELT Business: Veteran teacher-turned-owner Simon Moran kicked off a new series, ‘Why start an EFL school?’, sharing hard-won lessons on starting, owning, and running an EFL centre.
- EdTech Focus: Mark Hughes from Chalkie AI explained how Artificial Intelligence could be leveraged to give ELT teachers back their time.

We filled the rest of the magazine with critical analysis and interviews:
- Lou McLaughlin, executive director of Eaquals, gave practical guidance and support for quality language education.
- Tim Edwards from the English Language Institute at Victoria University of Wellington returned with a follow-up article on the evolution of online language exchange programmes since the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In celebration of Language in Action’s 10th anniversary, Emiliano Sallustri LiA founder and managing director, ELT, Malvern International, shared the programme’s success story.
- Fabio Cerpelloni sat down for an interview with writer and teacher trainer Billie Jago. Billie shares her advice for teachers who want to move into materials writing and reflects on the impact of AI.
- Plus, readers caught up on the latest research news from Gill Ragsdale and a new book review from Wayne Trotman.
- Readers didn’t miss Simon Emmett’s op-ed, where the chief partner officer at IDP Education discussed how institutions could use new testing data to ensure international students were set up for success from day one.

The next issue, with a spotlight on Master’s programmes, will be published in November. In the meantime, stay up to date with the latest from the ELT community by signing up for the weekly newsletter and visiting the EL Gazette website.
