Environmental Policy

Media Shed Limited is committed to leading the industry in minimising the impact of its activities on the environment.

The key points of our strategy to achieve this are:

  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
  • Minimise toxic emissions through the selection and use of our fleet, maximising use of public transport and reviewing the source of and our power requirement.
  • Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst our customers and suppliers.
  • Source and promote a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution.
  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the Company.
  • Use an accredited program to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities.
  • We request paperless billing from all suppliers and e-invoice using our cloud-based systems.  All reminders, statements, confirmations and marketing material are sent out and stored electronically.  We have actively moved clients and advertisers to online proofing and insertion proof, and will continue to do so.
  • We have calculated our own carbon footprint and will be using suppliers with the same commitment to environmental policies.  Our printer has achieved ISO14001 Environmental accreditation.
  • Our ISP runs on 100% green energy and are ISO 50001 certified.

Media Shed Ltd is committed to helping to combat climate change and sustaining our environment for future generations.  We are a low output business and do not fly for business, using public transport whenever possible.

Media Shed Ltd is a certified supporter of a Global Portfolio of Verified Carbon Reduction Projects to offset our 1 tonne of carbon dioxide.  Our portfolio of carbon offset projects focuses on high quality using Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), Gold Standard CERs, Gold Standard Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified credits. All of our projects meet the stringent requirements of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for Carbon Offsetting;

We keep our Carbon footprint as low as possible, and we have actively managed it for some years as part of our commitment to our environmental policy.  We use A grade electrical appliances.  All appliances and print toner are recycled at end of life.  We sort all waste and pay for commercial recycling of all office waste.

Our office building is modern and none of our team work from home.  We use 2,700kw hrs of electricity, 0.56 tonnes of CO2.  Our share of gas heating equates 0.6 tonnes.  This gives our office a carbon footprint of 1.16 tonnes of CO2.

Our business made one essential flight in the past year.

We have 2 electric company cars, and our office is cycle friendly and easy to walk to.  Colleagues car share where possible.  We do not use taxis for business purposes as we favour public transport.  This gives our business a transport carbon footprint of 0.41 tonnes of CO2.

Personal cars are used sparingly for business travel, and we conduct most meetings and presentations via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.  We have facilities set up in our meeting room so that colleagues can access these facilities easily, as required.

Our business carbon footprint is 1.57 tonnes of CO2 and we have offset this in full.

We request paperless billing from all suppliers and e-invoice using our cloud-based systems.  All reminders, statements, confirmations and marketing material are sent out and stored electronically.  We have actively moved advertisers to online proofing and insertion proof and will continue to do so.

We send online links to advertisers to keep them appraised of developments and issues.

Our prospect management and reporting is completely online, and we will continue to limit the number of face-to-face meetings and business travel on this project.  We find that it is no longer necessary to visit customers to present, and online is the preferred method now.

We do not employ any 3rd party contractors on this agreement, but if we did so, would positively promote a zero-carbon means of working.

We appreciate carbon offsetting is only a partial redress to the environmental impact of our business.  All our team are proactive champions and take positive ownership of our environmental responsibilities.  Our directors support the Woodland Trust and one volunteers for grounds maintenance with The National Trust.  Where we are involved in print, we only use fsc and pefc certified supplies.  We provide privilege parking to a team member who has mobility issues and have step-free access throughout our office.

We are a proud and committed equal opportunity employer and have senior team members with neurodiversity and also senior team members with mobility challenges.  We pay comfortably above the living wage to all colleagues and are a family-friendly employer.  We have gone from start-up to employing a small team in rewarding roles, generating employment within our community.

We apply the same levels of service and advice to customers who may not yet be able to afford to advertise and work with us, as we haven’t forgotten how difficult it is to start a business on your own.
